Detroit, MI, Feb. 22, 2025 – A strong delegation from Wexford County recently returned from the Michigan Democratic Party convention in Detroit on Saturday, February 22nd. In fact, our County Party had the largest delegation from any county in the 2nd Congressional District. Other highlights from the convention:
- Over 2000 delegates attended from throughout the state.
- WCDP endorsed candidate Curtis Hertel will be the new Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party. Curtis won the race when in a dramatic demonstration of unselfishness to promote unity, Al Williams withdrew his name as he was giving his final speech before the conference. We are very enthused to work with Curtis in the years ahead.
- 2 WCDP members, Chris Crain and Paula Meyers sit on the MDP Resolutions Committee.
- 3 WCDP members sit as delegates on the MDP State Central Committee. Amanda Siggins as delegate and Chris Crain and Bill Allen as alternates.
- The 2nd Congressional District Caucus elected John Helge as Chair along with a unity slate of other officers. The packed crowd also heard from Michigan Gubernatorial candidates Jocelyn Benson and Sheriff Chris Swanson.
- The Convention wrapped up with a plethora of motivational speeches from the likes of Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Attorney General Dana Nessel, US Congresswoman Debbie Dingel, and Lt. Governor Garlin Gilcrest who many of us thought was going to announce his candidacy for Governor in a second dramatic Convention moment. Stay tuned.
The Clare County Democratic Party has invited us, as well as all other 2nd Congressional District County Parties, to support a demonstration at the office of John Moolenaar this coming Friday, February 28th in downtown Clare.
