This year’s gala will celebrate the diversity that makes America great\, in particular\, the culture of Latin America and its people\, many of whom have suffered under the current administration. We’ll miss Cinco de Mayo by a few days\, but come on Friday\, May 8th to celebrate with us. \nJoin us for a social hour from 5:30-6:30\, where you can greet familiar friends and meet new ones. We’ll have a cash bar and appetizers. Help offset the cost of appetizers by choosing a sponsorship tier when you purchase your ticket. \nDinner will follow with the fiesta buffet and an array of delicious desserts! \nAfter dinner\, we’ll recognize some WCDP members and welcome a guest speaker. \nThen\, we’ll close out the night with a live auction! Bring your checkbook to bid on all sorts of items: handmade quilts\, gift certificates\, baskets\, unique handmade items\, and more! Swanson currently serves as Genesee County Sheriff and is a Democratic candidate for Michigan governor in 2026. \nSwanson grew up in Grand Blanc\, Michigan\, in a working-class family that emphasized hard work and the importance of taking care of others. He attended Mott Community College and the University of Michigan\, where he earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Public Administration. \nHe has served his local community in various roles\, including as a police officer\, paramedic\, business owner\, and professor. Swanson was elected as Sheriff of Genesee County in 2020 and re-elected in 2024.
